WE look at some of the memorable moments that have happened on this day in the remarkable history of Rangers Football Club.
1991 – Twenty five years ago today, Rangers signed Alexei Mikhailchencko from Sampdoria. The Ukrainian attacking midfielder played 134 times for the club between 1991 and 1996 before retiring from playing and taking up the position as coach with Dynamo Kiev under their legendary manager Valerly Lobanovsky and ultimately replaced him when he died.
He also then worked as Ukraine under-21 manager and then first team manager. He’s now back at Dynamo and has held the positions of Sporting Director and Assistant.
His first season at Ibrox was undoubtedly his most successful, as the club completed the double of the League title and Scottish Cup with Mikhailichenko grabbing 10 goals from 27 league games.
He featured in 29 league games as Rangers won a domestic treble a year later, but managed just five goals. He retired after his spell at Rangers after winning the League five times and the Scottish Cup three times.
1941 – Rangers defeated Hearts 4-2 in the Summer Cup thanks to goals from Willie Thornton, Alex Venters and a double from Willie McIntosh.
1971 – Former Rangers midfielder during Nine In A Row and current Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes celebrates his birthday today.
