Rangers got back to winning ways on this day in 2006 with a hugely impressive 3-0 win over Hibs at Ibrox.

Rangers took their time but they eventually produced a scoreline which was reflective of their dominance in a 3-1 over Hearts on this day in 2001.

The Ibrox men seemed on course for a rout when they went two up after only 20 minutes but it took them until the 70th minute to close out Hearts, who battled hard but were not in the same class as Rangers. Goals from Ronald de Boer, Russell Latapy and Shota Arveladze giving the Gers all three points.

Rangers finished their Champions League adventure in 2009 with a spirited performance in Spain but it was not enough against a Sevilla side that simply oozed class.

From start to finish of this final Group G clash Manolo Jimenez’s men showed flashes of the quality that has made them one of Europe’s top sides and title contenders in La Liga.

The Rangers players worked tirelessly throughout the 90 minutes but, in truth, they rarely tested Andres Palop in Sevilla’s goal while Allan McGregor could not relax for a second.

But despite the relentless pressure only one goal separated the teams this evening and it came from on eight minutes with Frederic Kanoute scoring with a superbly executed penalty to win 1-0.
