INCOMING Gers player Matt Crooks has today been named in the English League 2 team of the season.

Crooks, who penned a four year deal with the club will join this summer along with his fellow Accrington Town team mate Josh Windass was named as a midfielder in the line up announced today.

The 22 year old can play in midfield or in the heart of defence, played 35 times for Stanley this season, playing in League 2, the Capital One Cup and the FA Cup. He scored eight goals in all matches and was booked twelve times throughout the campaign.

He was also named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year during the PFA Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London this season.

Crooks scored in Accrington’s 2-2 draw with Premiership bound Hull City in the Capital One Cup, with Stanley cruelly being defeated 4-3 on penalties with Crooks missing from the spot. He also bagged a goal in the FA Cup in a 3-2 win over York.

Englishman Crooks is a very versatile player, making 53 appearances for Accrington, scoring eight times.

Striker Windass, the son of former Hull City, Bradford City and Aberdeen striker Dean, netted 17 times this season. His overall Accrington statistics are 23 goals in 87 games (66 starts).
