AFTER earning his first-call up to Malta’s national team, Myles Beerman is now desperate to repeat the feat to play a part in their double header with England and Scotland in September.

The 18 year-old full-back was included in the Mediterranean nation’s squad for their recent friendly with Ukraine and their World Cup qualifier with Slovenia, and made his debut against the Ukrainians with Malta running out shock 1-0 winners.

Now, Beerman has eyes for their next two qualifying matches as they get set to host England before travelling to Glasgow three days later at the start of September.

Its two games he’s naturally keen to play a part in, particularly the game at Hampden having played there previously for Rangers against Celtic at the end of last season, although that game, of course, ended in disappointment for the Gers.

He explained: “I’ll always be focussed to try and get in the squad and to try and get in the starting XI. I will keep on working hard, prove what I can do, but at the end of the day it’s the gaffer’s decision.

“It would be class playing again at Hampden. For me, as an individual experience the Celtic game was really good. It’s a brilliant stadium to play in.

“When I got the call-up was so chuffed and happy about it. I got there and everything was just a new experience for me, but international football is brilliant and all-in-all it was a really good experience.

“My first game was a really good result for us against such a good team. Ukraine are a good side, but to come away with the win and for me to start off in my first international game with a win, I’m really chuffed with that.”

And while Beerman would have returned to Glasgow with a wealth of new knowledge, one thing he did not expect to fly back with was a new haircut.

As part of an initiation ceremony, he had his hair shaved, and while understandably unhappy about it, he thought it best not to resist the perpetrators.

He added: “It’s always been a tradition when someone gets called up for the first-team for the first time, they get their head shaved up. I didn’t want to retaliate to them as there are some crazy guys there, so I had to go along with it! It’s growing back quickly though so it’s not too bad.

“It’s a great bunch of lads and it’s great to be around them.”
