RHYS McCABE is making his third appearance at the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens this weekend and is looking to continue his positive season.
The 19-year-old midfielder made quite an impact on the first team after being thrust in to the centre of the park by manager Ally McCoist in March.
Now having spent the campaign as the junior member of the first team he finds himself among the most experienced players in Tommy Wilson’s squad for the Soccer Sevens this weekend.
And he is relishing the chance to continue his campaign in to the summer, against a standard of opposition he expects to pose a difficult challenge.
McCabe told the Soccer Sevens website: “It’s a really well organised tournament full of quality teams.
“You only have to look at some of the teams that are here this year, like Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa, to realise that. So it’s a tournament I always look forward to.
“You have to adapt to the all-weather playing surface after being used to grass back home and playing seven-a-side on an almost full-size pitch really takes it out of your legs but, once you adapt to that, it’s very enjoyable.
“We don’t normally get the chance to come away to places like Hong Kong so to experience a city like this is fantastic.
“It’s a new culture for many of the players so there is a lot to learn off the pitch as well. It should be a great weekend and the boys are really looking forward to it.”
