LEE WALLACE says that he and James Tavernier will not get carried away with their goalscoring records already this season as they have a job to do for the team first and foremost.
The Gers captain has now scored five goals this season after his strike against Falkirk yesterday and fellow full back Tavernier has scored nine with his excellent free kick to give the Light Blues the lead at Ibrox.
Wallace spoke to RangersTV after the match yesterday and said that both he and Englishman Tavernier both know that they have important roles to play in Mark Warburton’s system – the goals being an added bonus.
He said: “I think that Tav and me need to make sure that we focus entirely on doing what we can to contribute to the team as best we can.
“It’s been an added bonus that we’ve been able to chip in with the goals that we have, but first and foremost we realise our jobs within the team.”
There is a remarkable team spirit within the current Rangers squad and that was typified with the gritty and committed performance that the Light Blues put in against a tough Falkirk side at Ibrox yesterday.
Wallace when speaking to RangersTV after the game yesterday was keen to point to the fact that the win against Falkirk and every performance that the team puts in is about more than just the players on the pitch in a blue jersey at any point in the game.
He said, “There isn’t just one or two individuals within our team, it’s been made clear that we are a team. It’s about more than just eleven players too, it’s about the squad. it’s about the eighteen players on a match day and the nineteenth man on match day too.
“It’s about the training groups throughout the week and about the whole squad, the staff and it’s a collective effort.”
