THE Rangers’ Development Squad’s Games Programme continues tomorrow with a glamour trip to take on FC Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian giants have a world-renowned youth academy, and have recently invested a significant sum of money building a class-leading training facility at their FC Bayern Campus base, close to their famous Allianz Arena home.

Players to have come through the ranks at Bayern in recent times include David Alaba, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm. Rangers, of course, have a long history of playing Bayern – indeed, the Light Blues have played them more than any other opponent from the continent.

The club’s first team have never won away to Bayern – with their best results being draws in 1972 en-route to Barcelona and the Cup Winners’ Cup, and a scoreless encounter under Graeme Souness in 1989.

There is little doubt Gers will be tested to their maximum in Germany tomorrow, but already, they have shown themselves to be a terrific side on the road in their Games Programme matches.

2-2 draws with each of Feyenoord, Manchester City and AZ Alkmaar were followed with a 4-2 win away to Belgian cracks Mechelen before their first defeat on the road came in their last away match to Everton.

Gers enjoyed a Christmas and New Year break following their trip to Merseyside, and returned to action last week with a 2-1 win at Falkirk in a friendly match.

They were supposed to have played St Johnstone in the Youth Cup on Tuesday at McDiarmid Park, but due to the inclement weather, that game was postponed meaning the squad have had just over a week to prepare for their meeting with one of the biggest names in World football.

Following their match with Bayern, the Development Squad will depart next week for a fortnight’s training in Spain, with matches against top Academy sides Villarreal and Levante to follow when they are there.

RangersTV will follow the team to Germany this weekend, with full highlights to come from the game next week.

We’ll also cover the game live on our @RFC_Youth Twitter account, and go behind the scenes at Sabener Strasse on our official Instagram page – simply follow ‘RangersFC’. Kick-off is at midday UK time.
