THE CLUB hosted the revamped Rangers Soccer 7s Invitational on Sunday in the sun soaked surroundings of the Training Centre at Auchenhowie.
Players and spectators were escorted from Ibrox Stadium and on arrival were welcomed by John ‘Bomber’ Brown ahead of a live tournament draw. Each team participated in a round robin tournament format with each group winner and runner-up progressing to the finals in the afternoon. At stake was the once in a lifetime opportunity to face a team of Rangers Legends on the Ibrox pitch at half-time next season.
During the day, a panel of Club Legends including John Brown, Alex Rae and Charlie Miller fielded questions from participants and regaled tales of their European experiences ahead of the Club’s return to European football next season.
The afternoon session saw a semi-final line up of LMR (Let Me Repair) vs. L&S Litho Printers and A.C Whyte vs. Curtis Insulation with LMR and A.C. Whyte closing in on the final. In a well fought contest, the impressive and well-organised LMR eventually emerged comfortable victors with a 3-0 win.
For those unlucky few who did not progress into the afternoon, the Club’s community coaches ran skill challenges with the chance to win exclusive Rangers prizes and held tours around the Club’s state of the art training centre.
Once play had concluded, a prize giving took place with LMR presented with the coveted Soccer 7s trophy by John Brown and their star man, Christopher McLeneghan, the Player of the Tournament Award for his outstanding performance in the final.
Well done to all those who participated in a truly memorable day at the Club’s training centre and thank you to our sponsor Lotteries.com whose support helped facilitate the event.
Congratulations once again to LMR (Let Me Repair) who still have it all to play for when they meet a team of Legends on the hallowed Ibrox turf in front of 50,000 supporters next season.
