Gordon Durie’s men looked good from start to finish in this game yet it was Dundee United who had the first chance of the match through Lochhead whose shot was palmed over the bar by Gers keeper Liam Kelly.
The Gers had the ball in the net not long after as Aird latched onto a loose ball following a shot from Dean Shiels, but the assistant had his flag up and the goal was ruled offside.
Clark then went close for the Gers as his diligent work up front paid off in the shape of a chance from the edge of the box that was well saved by the United goalkeeper.
It was Clark who had a hand in the opening goal for the Gers as he slipped the ball to Murdoch from the left flank for the midfielder who shot beyond the keeper from just outside the box.
United grabbed an equaliser after a corner ended up beyond Liam Kelly before the Gers took the lead again as a cross from Fraser Aird was met by the head of Clark which clattered off Mark Wilson and over the line to make it 2:1 to the Gers at the half way point.
The Light Blues had some chances in the early stages of the second half, but it wasn’t until the game reached it’s final third that the lead was increased through an excellent free kick from Fraser Aird from a tight angle.
Young winger Fraser Aird had a hand in the final Rangers goal too as it was his free kick from a wide position that forced a punch from the Dundee keeper only as far as Murdoch who rifled into the net to bag a brace.
The three points takes the Gers under-20 side onto seventeen points for the competition, with League leaders Aberdeen currently on 31 points having played three more games.
