RANGERS progressed to the third round of the Scottish Youth Cup with a 5-0 win over Celtic this afternoon.

It was a rematch of last season’s Old Firm final as the Young Gers travelled to Broadwood for the second round tie.

Rangers started brightly and had a chance straight from kick off as Kai Kennedy worked his way into the box and found Nathan Young-Coombes, but his shot was saved by the keeper.

Kennedy had a shot of his own on the 16th minute as good build-up play from Rangers saw him find space on the edge of the box, but he couldn’t keep his effort down as it drifted over the bar.

Celtic came close as Josh Adam found the run of Adam Brook but the Celtic striker dragged his shot wide of the target.

It was the Gers who got the breakthrough midway through the first-half as a short corner resulted in a cross being delivered into the box by Kai Kennedy. The ball was cleared by Celtic but only as far as centre-half Leon King who fired beyond goalkeeper Oluwayemi from the edge of the area.

Rangers threatened for a second before the break as Harris O’Connor’s picked out Nathan Young-Coombes in the box, but the Celtic keeper was quick to react to stop Young-Coombes getting a proper connection on the ball.

Just before the break Celtic had a corner which was swung in by Ben Wylie and landed for Josh Adam on the edge of the box but his shot was a comfortable save for Budinauckas.

Five minutes after the break Celtic threatened as Adam Montgomery played out wide to Owen Moffat, but his shot was just wide of the post.

The Gers doubled their lead on the 59th minute as Kai Kennedy’s cross across the face of goal was tapped in by Nathan Young-Coombes.

Just five minutes later substitute Ross McCausland added to the lead as Ciaran Dickson found his run with a lovely ball forward.

McCausland drove into the box beating the Celtic defender before drilling low beyond Oluwayemi.

Kai Kennedy had a great chance to add a fourth as he picked up on a loose ball inside the box but his shot was blocked by the goalkeeper.

Kennedy did get the fourth with five minutes remaining as he found space on the edge of the area and curled a right-footed shot in off the post into the back of the net.

In a strong finish by Rangers the fifth came with two minutes remaining as Harris O’Connor found Ciaran Dickson and the Gers captain drilled a powerful effort beyond the keeper.
