AN IMPRESSIVE pre-season display from Rangers Under-18’s saw them beat Huddersfield 9-1 at the Hummel Training Centre this afternoon.

David McCallum’s side started on the front-foot opening the scoring after just eight minutes as Nathan Young-Coombes was taken down inside the penalty box with the referee pointing to the spot.

Young-Coombes stepped up to take the spot-kick himself sending the keeper the wrong way with his right-footed penalty.

Just two minutes later Young-Coombes was again causing problems as Adam Devine found his run and the striker calmly slotted low past the keeper for his second of the game.

Rangers kept piling on the pressure as Cole McKinnon saw an effort go just wide of goal before Alex Lowry had a close range shot blocked by the Huddersfield goalkeeper.

The young Gers were awarded another penalty on the 22nd minute as Nathan Young-Coombes was again taken down inside the area. This time Alex Lowry stepped up to the spot and beat the keeper to put Rangers 3-0 ahead.

It was almost four inside the half hour mark as Albert Rachi beat the keeper but was denied by the woodwork as his shot rattled back off the crossbar.

The fourth did come just a few minutes later as Nathan Young-Coombes delivered a dangerous ball into the box which was diverted into the net by Cole McKinnon.

Rangers were relentless as they went 5-0 up on the 32nd minute. Cole McKinnon won possession before finding Kane Ritchie-Hosler, the forward turned well before firing into the top of the net.

Jay Hogarth had had a quiet afternoon so far in the Rangers goal and comfortably saved a low shot from Huddersfield midway through the second half.

Just before the break Nathan Young-Coombes had to come off after taking a knock and was replaced by Matty Yates.

Half-time substitutes for Rangers saw Alex Lowry, Leon King, Jay Hogarth, Adam Devine and Robbie Fraser replaced by Lewis MacKinnon, Ryan Muir, Ross McCausland, Matthew Henderson and Grant Thackray.

Rangers started the second half in similar fashion to the first adding a sixth just seconds after the restart as Ryan Muir found Matty Yates who drilled past the keeper.

The woodwork again denied the Young Gers as Cole McKinnon played a ball through to half-time substitute Ross McCausland who lifted the ball over the keeper but his effort bounced back off the crossbar.

From the resulting goal-kick, Cole McKinnon capitalised on an error from the visiting keeper as the ball landed to him at the edge of the box to fire home number seven of the afternoon.

On the 65th minute mark, David McCallum made more changes to his side with Alex Lowry, Robbie Fraser and Leon King all coming back on to replace Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Umaro Balde and captain Kyle McClelland.

Huddersfield got a goal back on the 72nd minute as a trialist got on the end of a cross to tap-in to make it 7-1.

However, just a minute later Rangers restored their seven goal advantage at Matty Yates got his second goal of the afternoon after working well to find space.

With 10 minutes to go Albert Rachi was replace by Kane Ritchie-Hosler.

The ninth and final goal of the afternoon was well worked by the Rangers youngsters as a good passing movement involving Kane Ritchie-Holser and Matty Yates set-up Alex Lowry to round of the scoring.
