RANGERS Under-18’s came from behind to beat Dundee United in a pre-season friendly at the Hummel Training Centre this afternoon.
Two quick-fire goals near the end of the second-half from Adam Devine and Matty Yates gave the young Gers the victory.
Dundee United threatened early on as Robert Ward saw his shot from inside the box saved by Rangers goalkeeper Jay Hogarth.
The visitors took the lead after 14 minutes as Darren Watson played the pall through to Archie Meekison who slotted past Hogarth.
David McCallum’s side were back level on the 37th minute as Adam Devine cut in and scored a fantastic long-range effort beating the Dundee United goalkeeper.
Rangers were ahead before the break as Matty Yates beat the offside trap to run through on goal and calmly fired into the back of the net.
The Young Gers were coming into their game now as one of the afternoon’s trialists saw their effort blocked by the keeper just before half-time.
Dundee United came close to equalising as Luc Bollan curled an effort just wide of the target.
Rangers made six changes at the break with Ryan Muir, Kyle McClelland, Harris O’Connor, Robbie Fraser, Kane Ritchie-Hosler and Umaro Balde coming on for Adam Devine, Matthew Henderson, Leon King, Ross McCausland, Lewis MacKinnon and a trialist.
Early in the second-half Matty Yates worked well down the right-hand side before cutting back to Alex Lowry who hit the ball first time but his effort was just over the bar.
Arron Lyall done well to win the ball back in the box before feeding through to Matty Yates but his shot was blocked by a defender and went out for a corner.
Yates again had an opportunity as Kane Ritchie-Hosler fed him through but his shot landed just wide.
David McCallum made a further change to his side Jay Hogarth was replaced by Grant Thackray in the Rangers goal around the hour mark.
On the 65th minute Cole McKinnon, Aaron Lyall, Alex Lowry and Matty Yates were replaced by Ross McCausland, Leon King and both of the afternoon’s trialists.
Ross McCausland had a chance to add a third as he was played in by Kane Ritchie-Hosler, but his shot was saved by the Dundee United keeper.
One of the afternoon’s trialists came close late on as he curled an effort just over the bar.
