JACK THOMSON celebrated his 18th birthday today – and reckons Rangers’ stunning win over Bayern was the perfect present.
Goals from Liam Burt and Stephen Kelly secured a memorable victory – with Thomson proud of his teammates’ efforts.
Speaking to RangersTV, Thomson said: “That was really good today. It was a great performance from the boys, and the fact it’s my birthday as well tops it off!
“I’m really pleased personally to get another 90 minutes as I’ve spent a lot of time on the sidelines last season and then the first half of this season.
“So that was pleasing, and then I thought the way the boys approached the game was brilliant.”
Rangers’ attacking threat throughout the game was superb, although Thomson would have liked to add his own name to the scoresheet with an audacious effort from the halfway line just after half time.
He continued: “I think we know we can do that as with the pace we have up front, we are always going to create chances as a team and also score goals.
“I’m just a bit gutted Stevie didn’t let me take the penalty to get a birthday goal!
“Kirky told us at half time the keeper was off his line quite a few times, so I had it in my mind.
“But I shanked it, and then spotted Andy Dallas had made a run, so I was gutted I didn’t find him!
“The games programme has been brilliant for us. It was a big risk taking us out the league and putting us into these games, but it has paid off.”
