Stephen Kelly RYDC Q&A
Rangers Academy midfielder Stephen Kelly enjoyed engaging directly with supporters during his recent RYDC Twitter Q&A and here are the highlights of his session.
Q – Ross McGuiness – How much of an influence do you think Steven Gerrard will have an effect on your development?
A – It will be great to get pointers from the manager – he was one of the best ever. There is a positive pathway at Rangers and a lot of the young boys are gaining first team experience as was shown on pre season. Going to Spain was terrific as we were training with better players at a higher level. It’s up to me to maintain that level at youth training too
Q – Regan – Goals & targets for 18/19?
A – My goal for the season is to make my first team debut
Q – Callum – Who in the first-team do you look up to?
A – I look up to Scott Arfield – we play in similar positions and I have formed a good relationship with him on and off the pitch
Q – Were there any players on tour who acted as a mentor to you? If so, who?
A – Scott again was good as was Andy Halliday. They were always encouraging me and the rest of the young boys
Q – Four Lads Had A Dream – You recently got a taste of first team life in Spain, what impact has this had on you?
A – Going to Spain has given me more confidence – in terms of training and diet etc. It was a late call but I was delighted to go
Q – For those that don’t know a lot about you, what type of player are you & who would you liken yourself too?
A – I would say I am a creative midfield player. I have a good work rate and I am very fit – I look at players like Kevin De Bryune and Iniesta
Q – Colin – Which player impressed you most at the World Cup?
A – Luka Modric has been the player of the tournament for me
Q – Is there an aspect of your game you’re going to work on this season?
A – I want to improve on the physical side of my game but I will develop in all areas
Q – Willy – How did you think last season went for you personally?
A – Last season went well for the team and me personally. Playing against different teams with different styles (in the Games Programme) has helped us all
Q – Daniel – Do you look up to any First team players currently?
A – As I said before I would say Scott Arfield
Q – Liam Hamilton – How is Tav as captain?
A – Tav is always wanting the best out of the young players – he makes sure we are all on our toes
Q – Liam – Fastest player in first team?
A – Daniel Candeias and Tav
Q – Reece – Favourite Rangers goal ever?
A – Pedro Mendes against Celtic at Parkhead – my favourite goal of my own was against Man City in the Games Programme last season. My Utrecht. Man Utd and Leicester goals were good too
