RANGERS Under-18’s progressed to the semi-finals of the Scottish Youth Cup with a 4-0 victory over Partick Thistle this evening.
Goals from Ross McCausland, Chris McKee, Leon King and Kane Ritchie-Hosler saw the Gers comfortably into the last four of the competition.
David McCallum’s side started bright with a few early chances as Umaro Balde saw his shot saved well by the Partick goalkeeper Luke Scullion after just five minutes.
Just a minute later, Scullion was called into action again as he got a hand to Chris McKee’s shot to turn the effort behind for a corner.
Rangers were forced into an early change inside the first 15 minutes as Cole McKinnon picked up a knock from a challenge with the Gers captain unable to carry on and Connor Allan came on in his place.
Partick were making it difficult for the Gers to break down as Ross McCausland’s right-footed effort from the edge of the box drifted just over the bar.
The deadlock was broken on the 32nd minute as Kane Ritchie-Hosler cut inside and picked out McCausland and he fired a powerful shot beyond the goalkeeper.
Rangers were awarded a penalty just after the break as Kane Ritchie-Hosler was taken down in the box. Chris McKee stepped up to take the spot-kick and sent the keeper the wrong way to double the Gers’ advantage.
Matthew Henderson had a shot soon after as his shot from distance was saved by the goalkeeper.
The third did come on the 67th minute as a short corner resulted in a cross into the box from Ross McCausland. Harris O’Connor headed the ball back across goal, with Leon King getting strong shot away to beat Luke Scullion.
Late in the game Rangers added a fourth with just five minutes remaining as Kane Ritchie-Hosler picked the ball up from Connor Allan and skipped beyond a Partick defender before firing low into the back of the net.
Rangers will now travel to face Aberdeen away in the semi-finals of the competition.
