RANGERS Development squad lost 2-1 to Partick Thistle this afternoon in a closed-door friendly at Rangers Training Centre.
A double from Dario Zanatta gave the Jags the victory, with Nathan Young-Coombes netting late on for the Light Blues.
The Gers lined-up with Andy Firth in goal, a back four of James Maxwell, Rhys Breen, John Flanagan and Nathan Patterson. In front of them was Matt Poster, Ciaran Dickson and Jack Thomson with Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker supporting number 9 Jake Hastie.
Academy players Lewis Mayo and Jamie Barjonas, who are currently on loan at Partick Thistle, were named in the starting 11 for the Championship side.
It was a lively start to the match as Jordan Jones’ shot was just over the bar before the visitors took an early lead on the third minute.
The Jags put Matt Polster under pressure in the Gers half before winning the ball back, which was picked up by Dario Zanatta who fired low beyond Andy Firth.
The Gers searched for an immediate response as Barker was next to try a shot but it was held well by Scott Fox.
Fox denied Barker again on the 16th minute with a good stop after the Gers winger was picked out in the area by Jake Hastie but it was blocked by the feet of the Partick keeper.
Jordan Jones had an effort saved by Fox, while Jake Hastie dragged a shot just wide after a good cutback from Barker.
Graeme Murty made one change at the break as Jack Thomson, who has just returned from a long-term injury, was replaced by Josh McPake.
Partick doubled their advantage after they were awarded a penalty on the 53rd minute. Zanatta stepped up to the spot and fired the ball into the left hand corner of the net.
Reece Cole had a shot from the edge of the box for Partick which bounced just wide of Andy Firth’s goal with the Gers keeper at full stretch.
Rangers got a goal back late on with the final kick of the ball as substitute Nathan Young-Coombes got on the end of a ball from Brandon Barker to fire high into the net
