RANGERS under-18’s lost their first game of the CAS league season with a 1-0 defeat to Fife Elite this evening.

A 86th minute strike from Craig Renicks sealed the victory late on for the visitors at Rangers Training Centre.

Aiden McLaughlin had the first shot at goal on the 18th minute as he drilled a low effort towards goal from the edge of the box but it was held well by Lewis Budinauckas.

The Gers were next to threaten just a minute later as Ross McCausland’s shot wide, before Kyle McClelland saw a headed held by the keeper.

The best chance of the first-half fell to the visitors, as a corner landed at Quinn Coulson on the edge of the box and his powerful shot rattled the crossbar.

Fife Elite came close again in the second-half with Lewis Budinauckas keeping the score level with two good saves for the Gers in the space of five minutes.

First, on the hour mark, Brogan Walls found the run of Quinn Coulson through on goal but his effort was blocked by the feet of Budinauckas before Aiden McLaughlin was also denied after being one-on-one with the Gers keeper.

Chris McKee glanced a header just wide from an Adam Devine corner as Rangers looked for a breakthrough.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead with four minutes of the game remaining as Craig Renicks fired a long-range effort into the back of the net.

Fife Elite goalkeeper Macallan White denied the Light Blues a share of the points as he tipped Chris McKee’s free-kick over the bar.
