RANGERS Development squad lost 2-0 this evening in a friendly away to Brentford.
Goals from Halil Dervisoglu and Tariq Fosu saw the home side to victory at the Imber Court Stadium.
The Gers squad was made up of a combination of first-team and Academy players with defender Filip Helander back in action as he played his first 45 minutes since picking up an injury in December.
Play was stopped early on as Jack Thomson received treatment after taking a knock with just six minutes on the clock. The Gers midfielder was unable to continue and was replaced by Murray Miller.
It was the hosts who had the first shot on target as the ball broke for Fredrik Hammar but his shot was pushed away well by Andy Firth.
Brentford took the lead on the 22nd minute as Nick Tsaroulla broke down the left-hand side before picking out the run of Halil Dervisoglu who diverted a powerful header into the back of the net.
After going behind Rangers pushed for an equaliser as Brentford goalkeeper Nathan Sheppard denied Jordan Jones and Filip Helander.
Kai Kennedy picked up on a loose ball outside the Rangers box and found Brandon Barker who drove towards the Brentford goal, before feeding the ball through to Jordan Jones but his shot was pushed out for a corner by the goalkeeper.
From the resulting corner, Jake Hastie swung a dangerous ball into the box which met the head of Filip Helander, but again the home keeper stood strong to deny the effort.
Just before the break Brandon Barker went on a driving run to the byline and looked to pick out Dapo Mebude in the box but the cross was held by Sheppard.
There was one change for the Gers at the interval as Kyle McClelland replaced Filip Helander at centre back.
The home side increased their lead on the 59th minute as Arthur Read found Tariq Fosu who drilled a powerful effort beyond Andy Firth.
Dapo Mebude saw his shot from outside the box held by Nathan Sheppard, while James Maxwell curled an effort just over the bar.
Brentford almost added a third with 15 minutes remaining as Christian Tue Jensen was in space in the box but he fired his shot over the bar.
Sheppard again denied the Gers a goal as he got a hand to Dapo Mebude’s curling goal bound effort.
Andy Firth denied the home side with nine minutes remaining as he got down quick to block a shot from substitute Jaden Brissett.
