NATHAN PATTERSON is relishing the chance to continue his development at Rangers after signing a new contract to stay at the club until summer 2022.

The 18-year-old is now in his 10th year at Rangers having made his way through the Academy ranks and with another two and a half years at the Light Blues he is hoping he can to continue to impress.

Speaking to RangersTV after signing his new contract, he said: “I am obviously delighted because I have been working hard and that is what you want to achieve, a new contract and you want to stay here for as long as you can and push on.

“I feel as if I have got a great chance at this club, it is a huge club and it is the club I support so obviously I want to stay here and try and make my place in the team

“It is always good to know you have got enough time to progress and go and do what you can to try and get that jersey.

“I’m hoping to keep doing what I’m doing and progress with the Development Squad and try and get under the Gaffer’s eye and hopefully take my chance when it comes.

“I have been here 10 years and it has flown by, but it has been great because obviously I have developed really well and I’m pushing on to the first team now. It is mad to think it has been 10 years.”

The right-back has been training with the first-team regularly, and is enjoying the challenge of playing alongside more experienced players and training under Steven Gerrard.

He continued: “Obviously he was a top player, he has been through it all in the Champions League and you just want to learn from the best and that is what I am here to do.

“Training with the first team is great, you get to play with top players and they challenge you and that is obviously what you want because that will help you get better as a player.

Patterson has been enjoying his football this season with the Development squad progressing in the Youth League, and reaching the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.

He added: “We are doing really well just now, we have taken every game as it comes and we are not taking any opposition lightly

“We are just going through every game and hopefully we can keep going on further.

“Over the past couple of seasons, and especially this season, I think I have done really well. I have kicked on and I am just hoping to keep doing the same.”
