RANGERS midfielder Jamie Barjonas feels the Colts technical ability showed in the end as they beat Stranraer 2-0 in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup.
Graeme Murty’s side progressed to the third round of the competition with Josh McPake and Barjonas on the scoresheet.
The Colts captain said: “I am buzzing with the result I thought it was a good team performance and there were a lot of good individual performances.
“Overall it was a really tough game Stranraer have got a good side and I think at times in the game we kind of played their game and the game got a bit scrappy but towards the end I think the technical ability of our players has definitely showed.
“I think you could maybe even say we were coming into the game as underdogs obviously we have got quite a young side.
“I thought Dapo and Josh were absolutely brilliant tonight and they have shown through pre-season that they are really good players so overall as a team so we are really buzzing with that result.
“I think playing together in tournaments like this against maybe lower league sides where you are going to play against a different style of football it really does help obviously for boys going out on loan and stuff like that.
“I think being able to play against and show our style of football against teams like this is really good.”
Barjonas got his goal with nine minutes of the game remaining and felt it came at the perfect time as Stranraer pushed for an equaliser.
He added: “At half-time they said to me that they wanted to see me higher up the pitch so it was just a breakaway and I thought after I played the ball I’d get into the box and luckily it landed at my feet and I was able to just put it in the back of the net.
“The way the game was going obviously it was only 1-0 it was a small margin so it was kind of end to end so to get the goal with 10 minutes to go kind of gave us a bit of relief.
“We could start moving the ball about again and I think in the last 10 minutes we absolutely dominated the game and controlled the game so it was good.”
