STRIKER Josh McPake felt the Development Squad deserved their Glasgow Cup victory after a dominant performance at Firhill last night.

The Young Gers were a goal behind after just 25 seconds but responded well with McPake netting twice to secure the three points.

Speaking to RangersTV after the match he said: “I thought we played well from start to finish, the 20 seconds at the start was quite rough obviously we conceded a goal.

“We should be more clinical to be honest but I thought it was a good win and well deserved.

“We were creating a lot in the first-half and a lot of clear cut ones that we kind of missed out on so the message was to keep going and keep believing in ourselves and obviously it worked.

“The first goal I saw John Balde running into the box and I thought there’s going to be a clash here and there was and then it was a tap in at the edge of the box and the second one I’ve just kind of struck it really well and it’s obviously managed to go in.

“It’s really pleasing, we have obviously come out here and held our own and deserved to win.”

The 18-year-old striker has returned to the Gers after a loan spell at Dundee and netted in last weekend’s Development Squad match against Motherwell before his double last night.

He added: “I am very pleased, my confidence was a bit low after the loan spell I didn’t play as much as I wanted so it was really low.

“To get back and get games under my belt, get fitness back and get goals I’m feeling a lot better about myself.

“It’s really busy for us just now, it’s tough we have obviously got Huddersfield on Saturday and we will need to rest and prepare well for that and Clyde during the week but it will be good.”
