UNFORTUNATELY tomorrow’s development squad match with AEK Athens has been cancelled as a result of the snow in London.

The AEK group were scheduled to travel to Glasgow via Heathrow this morning and as a consequence of the weather issues in London they have been left grounded in Athens.

This is a huge disappointment because the development squad have been in great form and are undefeated in their last six games, winning five and drawing one.

Victories over Benfica under-19’s, Berwick Rangers first team, Cowdenbeath first team team, KV Mechelen ‘B’ team and Partick Thistle in the SFA Youth Cup has seen the young Gers score an impressive nineteen goals and concede only six. A 2-2 draw with Manchester United’s under-23’s completes the six game undefeated run.

The team, currently being managed by Academy coaches Billy Kirkwood, Peter Lovenkrands, and Head of Academy Craig Mulholland in the absence of Graeme Murty, were looking to build on their excellent run of games.

The unique games programme is designed to provide the young Rangers players with a mixture of playing against Europe’s best young players while also competing with men’s first teams domestically and is an innovative way of changing how our elite talent is challenged and developed.

The Academy staff will now seek to arrange a domestic bounce game to replace AEK Athens if possible in preparation for the next match in the games programme against Everton away at the weekend.
