AFFECTIONATELY nicknamed ‘Der Goalie’ by fans, Klos joined Rangers in 1998 after eight seasons with his hometown club Borussia Dortmund.

In his time with the Bundesliga side, he lost a UEFA Cup final to Juventus in 1993 then made up for it with Champions League glory against the same team four years later.

Klos arrived in Glasgow as Andy Goram’s replacement and proved to be a big hit with the Light Blues, winning the championship and the Scottish Cup in his first season.

Those were to be among 10 major honours the German claimed before he left Scotland for retirement in Switzerland in the summer of 2007.

Although never capped by his country, Klos was an outstanding player in his position and he was rewarded with the Rangers captaincy in July 2004.

He sadly wasn’t to wear the armband for long as a cruciate knee ligament injury sustained six months later meant he only took part in five more games after recovering.

Even so, the £700,000 Gers paid for Klos’ services was money well spent as he proved time and time again to be a safe and reliable pair of hands whenever he played.
