THE RANGERS legends are the kings of Hong Kong after a fantastic victory in the Soccer Sevens final with a 2-1 win over Ajax.

A Jorg Albertz penalty had them ahead then Kenneth Perez equalised, also from the spot, and the final was won by a thunderous left foot strike from Alex Rae.

Andy Goram’s All-stars were awesome especially after they lost Arthur Numan for the final due to a groin injury – although Ajax had problems too as Aron Winter suffered a broken arm.

It was a fantastic performance from the Ibrox greats who all played their part in a terrific win. It was just a pity the young pros could not follow suit in the main competition.

Ajax were the reigning champions but Rangers made the better start and took the lead from the penalty spot. Michael Mols was brought down by Ferdi Vierklau and, of course, Jorg Albertz stepped up to take it.

In typical Hammer style he smashed his kick into the left corner giving the keeper no chance.

Rangers held that lead quite comfortably until half-time but they conceded a penalty of their own. The Goalie was judged to have pulled down Jari Litmanen by Premiership referee Phil Dowd who covered all of the top games at the tournament.

It was Ajax’s top scorer Kenneth Perez who slotted the spot kick although Goram was not far away from it.

Rangers looked the more dangerous as both sides sought a winner with Albertz coming close after scramble in the box.

But it was Alex Rae who settled the match. Charlie Miller picked him out with a cross field pass and he moved the ball onto his left foot before drilling a great shot into the right corner.

Marvin Andrews should have played in Mols for a third goal but opted to shoot and put his effort over the bar.

However, the big man came to the rescue in the final moments with a brilliant blocking tackle on Perez.

Bizarrely Mols wore a “Numan 3” shirt – not out of a tribute to his good friend but because someone had nicked his jersey!

It was all part of the fun of a wonderful few days in Hong Kong for the Legends.
