It was like going back in time as Boyd joined Kenny Miller on the Auchenhowie training pitches and both looked sharp as they were put through their paces by the Gers coaching staff.
With the MLS season now over Portland Timbers hitman Boyd, who scored 127 goals for the Light Blues, is now back in Scotland and Ally McCoist was thrilled to see him.
He said: “I love it, I really do. I must admit I think everybody at the club, when they see players come back to say hello and come to train with the boys, I think it’s fantastic.
“I’ve always said that if you play for this club it never leaves you, there’s no doubt about that.
“The fact that these boys come back to see us is wonderful because we want them to come back and we will always do our best to make them welcome.
“When you look at our squad right now we have kids in the team such as McKay, Macleod, Crawford, Aird and Perry who I still count as a kid even although he might not like me saying that!
“It’s wonderful for them to train with them and it gives them a wee education as well.”
