With the support of Rangers fans everywhere, the Foundation hopes to raise £25,000 over the course of the season to help fund some of The Soldiers’ Charity’s core activities.
The Soldiers’ Charity – the Army’s national charity - has been working with soldiers and veterans from every conflict since World War Two by giving practical support to the brave men and women who serve in the British Army.
Not only is the Charity there for our soldiers and veterans when they fall on hard times, but it provides critical financial support for their families too.
In the last year, The Soldiers’ Charity supported over 4000 individuals and around 80 specialist charities. The oldest beneficiary during the year was 104 and the youngest was two years old.
The Charity distributed grants that covered war widows and family support; annuities and care home fees; mobility assistance and home modifications; education bursaries and in dire cases, even debt relief.
Major General Martin Rutledge, Chief Executive of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity said: “This partnership between Rangers Charity Foundation and The Soldiers’ Charity is a fantastic opportunity to raise both funds and awareness of our cause – the brave men and women who risk so much to serve the nation.
"When things go wrong the impact extends to their families and friends and The Soldiers’ Charity is there for them with a helping hand. Long after our soldiers are back from Afghanistan, with public support, we will continue to be here for them.”
McCoist said: “It is a pleasure to announce ABF The Soldiers’ Charity as the Rangers Charity Foundation’s partner for Season 2012/13. Rangers Football Club has long established links with the armed services and we are delighted to support the work of The Soldiers’ Charity throughout the campaign.
"I have mentioned this many times, but the men and women who serve their country are the real heroes in life and The Soldiers’ Charity deserve great credit for supporting thousands of individuals every year.”
Connal Cochrane, Manager of the Rangers Charity Foundation said: “We are very proud to be launching our partnership with The Soldiers’ Charity and doing what we can to assist our extremely brave troops, veterans and their families.
"The charitable spirit of Rangers fans is second to none and with their support we look forward to making a real difference for such a worthy cause.”
