RANGERS will kick-off the Second Division campaign against Brechin City at Ibrox on Saturday, August 10 after the fixtures for the 2013/14 season were announced today.

The SFL 3 Championship flag will be unfurled prior to kick-off against Brechin, who are managed by former Dundee United midfielder Ray McKinnon.

Coincidentally, Rangers’ first match of last season was at Glebe Park when they faced Brechin in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup.

City finished third in the Second Division last season just six points behind Alloa who ended up winning promotion in a play-off with Dunfermline.

So it promises to be a good test for Ally McCoist and his players as they get set for stage two of the journey.

The Light Blues face away trips to Stranraer on August 17 and Airdrie on August 24 before finishing the opening month with a home game on August 31 against East Fife, who are reputed to be trying to sign Nacho Novo.

In September there will be home games against Arbroath (14th) and Stenhousemuir (28th) with a trip to Forfar on the 21st. Rangers will complete the first round of fixtures with a visit to Somerset Park, Ayr on October 5 and then a home game with Jim Jeffries’ Dunfermline on the 12th.

There will be a busy festive period for the Light Blues with a home game against Stranraer on Boxing Day, a trip to Dunfermline on December 28 and a visit to Airdrie on January 2.

The league campaign runs to May 3 and the final match is away to Dunfermline.

Rangers, however, will face two cup ties before the Second Division gets underway. The Ramsdens Cup first round falls on July 27 – the draw is due to take place next week – and the first round of the League Cup is on August 3.
