MARK WARBURTON was delighted to see young striker Ryan Hardie bagging a hat-trick for loan side Raith Rovers at the weekend.
Hardie hit a hat-trick as Raith Rovers beat St Mirren 4-3 at Stark’s Park to move four points clear in fourth place in the Ladbrokes Championship.
The Gers striker has now scored four goals in two games for Raith, with Saturday being his first start and Warburton told RangersTV of his delight at seeing his young striker doing well.
He said: “I have seen the goals and I am sure Ryan will accompany that with a few messages but it was great for him.
“Ray [McKinnon] phoned up and told me how well he has settled in and how well he has done and I am delighted for him.
The on-loan Rangers striker scored after just three minutes and added two more goals early in the second half, with Mark Stewart also on target for Ray McKinnon’s men and he was happy to have taken the chances that the team presented him.
Hardie told the press after the match on Saturday: “First and foremost I’m delighted with the win and to get three points that keeps us in fourth place,” the 18-year-old said.
“I thought, the way we set out to play, that there was going to be chances for our front line. As they came I just took them, so that’s good.”
Warburton continued: “I looked at the screen and saw Ryan has scored the first and then Jordan Thompson scored for Airdrie as well.
“The boys out on loan are adapting and learning what it means to be in games where three points ae everything, where they have gys alongside them who have to go home and pay their mortgages and their bills.”
